Tembec, Béarn, Qc

In 2011 Tembec decided to go forward with a biomass fired boiler project for their sawmill in Béarn, Qc.  The mill had been operating on #2 oil for several years and of course current oil prices soon rendered their kiln drying operations uncompetitive.  This is when they decided to install a 700HP Wellons FEI wood fired boiler.  The boiler operates on ground down wet bark from their mill operation.  Bark is the mill residue with the least value so it’s only logical for them to use this product as fuel for the boiler.  With its automatic ash extraction system the Wellons FEI stepped grate combustion chamber was the logical choice to handle this high ash content fuel.  100psi steam will be distributed to the kilns to dry lumber and will heat the mill during the winter months.  Boiler will be operational in May 2012.
